Beaver Trails

 Thursday, June 10

After catching up with Michael, Chuck, Feather and I headed towards the lighthouse on foot.  It was a lovely walk.

The Island Historical Society also maintains a Marine Museum, also closed,  this time due to last year’s high waters more than anything else. The good news is that many of the exhibits are outside and still available even though the museum is closed.

One particular display of interest was pieces of a shipwrecked ship, arranged approximately as they would have been on the ship.  Chuck especially enjoyed showing me this exhibit, and explaining to me what things were.

A lot of work has gone into preserving the history of the Island. Go if you get the chance.

Just a ways further and we came to the lighthouse that we mcould see so clearly from our spot in the Marina.  It’s a beautiful classic old lighthouse on a rocky shore

They have a memorial to Beaver Islanders lost at sea.

And the original Fresnel lens is on display (through a window).

Meanwhile Feather has found a new way to dog.

That was about it for us for the day.  Back to the boat, Dinner, showers.

The plan is to get up early, early (leave port by 6) and make it through the straits tomorrow). I even booked us a slip in the harbor at Mackinac Island.  This will be my first visit and Chuck hasn’t been in 20 years or so.

  1. Is there a way to "subscribe" so I'd get a notice when you update? Really interested in this stuff.
