Hiding from the weather

 Friday, June 4

Unexpectedly, short day.  The weather forecast was for lots of wind, and we needed a friendly harbor in which to hide.  We ended up in familiar territory, just a few miles down the road from Qajaq Training camp in Frankfort, MI.  It’s weird to me because we had so little wind that we motored all day, but we could see the weather changing.

We passed several lighthouses including Little Sable Point, Manistee Light and Big Sable point. The picture above is a poor picture of Big Sable. Our final lighthouse of the day was in Frankfort, MI.  A cool coincidence happened and we ended up meeting up with friends on the water.  They just bought a trawler in Wisconsin and were bringing her across, headed to Port Huron, MI.  They saw the same forecast we did and were making for Frankfort.  We ended up docked beside them in the Frankfort Municipal Marina (MI DNR), which is right downtown and is a beautiful facility.

Once we got the boat settled, we took Feather for a walk through town and down to the beach and the lighthouse.  They beach here is amazing, and has a dog run, so Feather was welcome, which isn’t always true at public beaches.

The walk back included a watermelon snowball from a little shop right above the Beachon Main Street, which included Michigan gummies.

Much fun was had by all, and when we got back, I cooked dinner (bruschetta chicken, green beans and Mac and cheese), and these two did this:  Cutest thing ever and not something Feather has ever done before. I think they were both just so tired.
