Sunrise. Sunset.
Wednesday, June 2
Feather woke us at 445am or so. We decided to go ahead and get moving. Make some miles. Still reliant on dinosaur remains.
It was another beautiful calm day on the lake. Feather was able to sleep in many different places on the boat. I did a little laundry in my Scrubba (just because I could, not because we needed to already), did a little more organization in the cabin. Chuck captained the boat. We made a stop at the last reported position of the LJ Conway, a ship captained by Chuck’s great-great Grandfather that sunk in Lake Michigan in 1886. Pops and Chuck (and even me) had looked for the shipwreck many times from land.
We used the little water drone to try to find the wreck from water; we too were unsuccessful, but we thought Pops would find it fitting that we spread a bit of his ashes here. In fact, Chuck commented that it was particularly fitting spreading Pops’ ashes at a shipwreck we couldn’t locate. Apparently, Chuck spent much of his childhood with his father searching for and NOT finding shipwrecks.
We pulled into Pentwater planning to stay at the Yacht Club. Nope. Only seawall space available. The DNR slips at Mears State Park? Nope (closed to transients due to COVID (we think). So we called up Snug Harbor. No one was there but the owner told us to dock and we’d sort it out in the morning. Happy Accident. Not that kind of accident, mom.
Great facilities, nice people, $1.70/ft/night. Right in a really cute, very walkable downtown.
There was even ice cream. On the way back we stopped to watch the sunset at the end of a very nice day.
