The plane! the plane!

June 13

Mackinac Island (still)

207 steps up and we were taking the requisite tourist pictures when a familiar voice asked if we would like a picture together. Sharon and Frank had circled back around to meet us at Arch Rock.

After a few minutes of catching up, and a few minutes of picture taking, we all agreed to get away from the masses. (There is a horse drawn bus that brings tourists to Arch Rock, and one unloaded right about then). We all agreed to take the lesser used trails on the east side of the island back to the airport where Frank and Sharon would head home.  Frank led the way and Feather (in spite of usually being quite fearful of new people) adopted Frank immediately.

The park is part of the Niagara Escarpment, and as such it looks much like Flowerpot Island (which may be a reference lost on many of you).  The land is rocky and covered in old growth cedar with dense shade, which thankfully hasn't been spoiled by man.  Some trails are concrete and most are dirt. All are surrounded by lush and verdant growth.

The flowers were so amazing, I'm going to give them their own blog post, but look, Ma!, yellow lady slippers!

Frank led us to the airport, where he prepared to take off and Feather tried (once again) to stowaway.  Once her plan was foiled, she decided to lie down in the shade of the wing.

And there they go...

leaving us to wander back to town (2 miles)...

where we stopped to eat at Great Turtle Brewery again (don't fix it if it ain't broke)...

stopping only for ice cream...

to Mile 0 of M185...
then back to Twoflower, where the Captain and his second mate fell promptly to sleep.
